Chris Price has been named as the next Director of The Tank Museum.

Chris, currently Chief Executive Officer of North Yorkshire Moors Railway, will assume the role in January 2024.

It was announced in June that current Director Richard Smith OBE would be leaving Bovington to take up the post of Executive Director at Gresham College in the city of London.

Chris, who spent 10 years in the RAF as an engineer before embarking in a career in heritage, was one of 120 applicants for the post.

Sir Bill Rollo, The Tank Museum’s Chair of Trustees said; “Chris will bring considerable experience of heritage engineering as well as success in running a major visitor attraction with many similarities to The Tank Museum. We all look forward very much to welcoming him to the team.”

Chris steered the North York Moors Railway through many changes and milestones – through the uncertainty of Covid-19, achieving 300,000 visitors per year, securing £4.6m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and welcoming King Charles III on his first public appointment as Monarch.

Chris said: I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted the position of Director at The Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset. I am extremely passionate about the preservation of heritage collections and I am thankful to have been presented this opportunity to become an ambassador for this fantastic charity.
