COVID FORCES EVENTS RESHUFFLE

The Tank Museum has been forced to reshuffle its special events programme as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Museum had been confident of a return to normality in 2021, but the severity of the current situation combined with a lack of optimism across the industry has forced the postponement of its signature events.

Tiger Day 15, set for 24 April 2021, is being pushed back to 24 July 2021, TANKFEST is to be pushed from 25 – 27 June 2021 to 17 – 20 September 2021 and Tiger Day 16 is being moved from 18 September 2021 to 23 April 2022.

“As a charity, these events play a vital role in our ability to raise funds,” said Head of Marketing Nik Wyness.

“It has become clear that there is too much risk associated with the existing dates – and we must push them back in the hope that the situation improves sufficiently to allow them to go ahead.”

The Tank Museum successfully delivered two Tiger Days in between the first and second lockdowns of 2020. But the scale of TANKFEST, which would normally attract 25,000 visitors from across the world, presents a more significant challenge.

“We are hoping that by mid-September, the UK vaccine roll-out will be almost complete and levels of infection in the community will have sufficiently subsided to make larger public gatherings possible.

“We can’t assume that everything will be back to ‘normal’ by then, so we’ve had to make some changes to the way in which the event might run – including a visitor capacity which is less than a quarter of what we might normally expect.”

Ticket holders are being contacted directly by The Tank Museum.
