Enthusiasts of First World War history will be pleased to learn that The Tank Museum is finalising plans to republish a new edition Trevor Pidgeon’s definitive The Tanks at Flers.
This comprehensive history on the first use of the tank was first published in 1995, following years of meticulous research.
Drawing on war diaries, operational orders, plans, field maps, correspondence, first-hand accounts and photographs from both sides, his was the first work to appropriately commemorate the officers and men of the world’s first tank unit.
It has now been out of print for many years and become something of a collector’s item.
The Tank Museum has worked with historian Stephen Pope, author of The First Tank Crews to update and enrich the title – which is considered essential reading for anyone with an interest in the development of the tank and the birth of armoured warfare.
