Young people can now run, jog, or walk at junior parkrun at The Tank Museum.
Junior parkrun is for children aged 4-14 and is completely volunteer-driven, priding itself on combining fitness, fun, and community spirit.
Since launch in early September, The Tank Museum junior parkrun has proven popular by attracting 22 young people across the first two events to the start line for the first time.
The course, which is the only one of its kind currently on the Isle of Purbeck, starts at the Challenger 1 tank outside the Museum’s entrance before passing the Vehicle Conservation Centre and Kuwait Arena.
Simon Prager, The Tank Museum’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We’re so excited to be hosting this new weekly junior parkrun, which offers runners the rare opportunity to run around the grounds housing our unique collection.”
From 9:30am, participants aged 4-14 will be able to explore The Tank Museum for free with a paying adult on the day of their run, by showing their parkrun barcode at the Museum’s Admissions desk.
The Tank Museum junior parkrun Event Director, Nick Booth, said: “I want to thank Dorset Council and the Purbeck Youth and Community Foundation for funding this amazing community initiative, and The Tank Museum for hosting us.
“One of the first juniors to finish the run described it as ‘awesome’ – and I can’t think of a better review than that! All parkrun events are made possible thanks to volunteers and if you are willing to support us with your time, we’d love to hear from you.”
Spectators and runners can enjoy refreshments from The Tank Museum’s outdoor kiosk, which is open from 9am.
