From 9 November 2026, The Tank Museum will close at the earlier time of 4pm.
This temporary change is necessary because of ongoing maintenance issues with the lighting infrastructure across the site.
During the darker winter months, low light levels in some parts of the Museum have prompted safety concerns.
Our priority is to ensure that visitors can move around the site safely.
Responsibility for maintaining the affected lighting infrastructure rests with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO).
Under the terms of our lease, the Museum is unable to undertake the necessary remedial work itself.
We are continuing to work with DIO to resolve these issues, but until a solution is in place we have decided to bring forward our closing time – rather than introduce different closing times across the Museum, which would be challenging to implement.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause – and thank our visitors for their patience and understanding while we work to minimise impact on the visitor experience.
