Dorset Museums Volunteer of the Year Award

Congratulations to our workshop team volunteer, Alec James, for winning Dorset Museums Volunteer of the Year Award!

Alec has been volunteering with our Workshop Team and Vehicle Operations Manager for an incredible 16 years. This year alone, he will have racked up 115 days of volunteer time!

Working hard to maintain our running fleet of vehicles, Alec has helped get us ready for Tanks in Action displays, TANKFEST and Tiger Day. Additionally, he has undertaken a professional qualification to help support the delivery and safety of the Museum’s pyrotechnic displays.

Our Vehicle Operations Manager said:

“Alec has been invaluable in setting up pyro for displays, has completed the Association of Stage Pyrotechnicians Safety Awareness training, and is now registered with the Association. He has crewed vehicles, assisted with vehicle rides, compiled driver’s aide memoirs for a range of vehicles and supported us on off-site activities. He is my main POC amongst the volunteers, acting as their spokesman when they wish to raise issues or provide feedback.”
