This October Half Term is your last chance to see the Battlegroup Afghanistan exhibition, which tells the tale of soldiers fighting in Afghanistan in their own words. Closes 3 November 2024.
Battlegroup Afghanistan opened in 2011, whilst the conflict in Helmand province was still ongoing. This special exhibition features first-hand accounts, allowing serving soldiers to tell their stories in their own words. In a recreated Forward Operating Base, visitors can see the vehicles used by armoured regiments and immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and conditions of soldiers in Afghanistan.
Nik Wyness, Head of Marketing and Engagement said: “Battlegroup Afghanistan was a landmark exhibition for the Museum in representing an ongoing conflict and putting serving soldiers and their equipment centre stage.”
After Battlegroup Afghanistan closes to the public on 3 November, work will begin to get the space ready for a new exhibition opening in Spring 2025. Charting the story of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the role of armoured vehicles, this exhibition will tell the first-hand stories from Ukrainian tank crews, Royal Tank Regiment soldiers who have delivered training on the Challenger 2 tank, and Ukrainian people who have sought refuge in the UK.
There’s plenty to see and do at The Tank Museum this October Half Term, where visitors can explore powerful interactive exhibitions and discover the world’s finest collection of military vehicles, as well as celebrating ‘Tanks on Film’ with movie-themed activities for all the family.
