The Leopard 1 was the first fully German-developed family of combat vehicles after the Second World War, owing much to the design concepts developed through combat experience during the latter stages of that conflict.

The Tank Museum Guide to Leopard 1 tells the story of the Leopard’s development, and gives a detailed description of its operating systems, maintenance, and repair. Featuring more than 300 photographs and a detailed walk‑around of The Tank Museum’s Leopard AS1, the book includes first‑hand insights from Australian Army crew members offering their perspectives on operation and maintenance.

Written by military vehicles author, Michael K. Cecil, formerly head of Military Heraldry and Technology at the Australian War Memorial, with co-author Michael Shackleton, author of the Leopard 1 trilogy.

Assistant Marketing Manager, Gemma Butler, said: “Our Guide to Leopard 1 gives enthusiasts an exciting opportunity to read a comprehensive study of one of the Cold War’s most important Main Battle Tanks.

“Joining our existing series of self-published books, this book tells the fascinating history of the Leopard 1 – from its design in 1963 to its future with a growing list of nations.”

The Tank Museum Guide to Leopard 1 can be pre-ordered exclusively from tankmuseumshop.org.  What’s more, orders placed before 22 June allow purchasers to have their (or a loved one’s) name printed in the acknowledgements section.
