History was made in Dorset as the British Army’s next-generation Challenger 3 main battle tank was revealed to the public for the first time.
The surprise appearance in the arena at The Tank Museum’s annual TANKFEST event thrilled thousands of visitors, offering a rare glimpse of the future of the Royal Armoured Corps.
The Challenger 3 was presented alongside the in-service Challenger 2 and a Challenger 1 from The Tank Museum’s collection, bringing together three generations of British main battle tank in a single display.
Although the Challenger 3 has yet to enter regimental service, it represents a major step forward in capability, modernising the Army’s armoured forces for the years ahead.
Nik Wyness, Director of Marketing & Engagement at The Tank Museum, said: “To present Challenger 3 to a public audience for the first time, alongside its predecessors, is a landmark moment – not just for TANKFEST, but for British armoured history.
“It brings into sharp focus the evolution of the Army’s main battle tank, from Cold War legacy to future capability, in a way only this event can.”

TANKFEST continues across the weekend, welcoming visitors from around the world to experience live arena displays, historic vehicles, and immersive living history.
