A fully remote control M47 model tank is being auctioned online to help raise funds to restore The Tank Museum’s full-sized M47 Patton tank to running order for TANKFEST 2025.
With functioning tracks, a rotatable turret, working exhaust smoke system and hand-drawn markings, this unique 1/6 model M47 tank could be yours to own if you place the winning bid.
The Museum’s M47 spent its service life with the Italian Army and was acquired in 1987, saving it from target practice, but has sat in storage ever since and has never been on public display.
This auction is part of an appeal by the Museum to raise £50,000 to get their M47 restored and running in time for TANKFEST 2025.
Kirsty Goddard, Assistant Marketing Manager said: “This wonderful 1/6 working remote-control model was kindly gifted to support our fundraising appeal. Don’t miss this opportunity to add it to your collection and help us get our M47 up and running. The M47 is the only one of its type in the Museum’s collection, this restoration will enable the Museum to add a missing piece to the story of Cold War tank development.”
The M47 Patton was one of a series of American tanks developed during the early years of the Cold War. A famous fan of the M47 can be found in Arnold Schwarzenegger, who purchased the tank he crewed whilst serving in the Austrian Military and had it shipped to the US.
The auction ends at 12pm on Monday 23 September.
