Explore the history of making tea in tanks, alongside spectacular live action displays and vehicle rides at The Tank Museum this Easter Holiday.
As part of the Museum’s Easter Holidays programme, running from 28 March until 12 April, explore the essential role of tea in military life—from improvised First World War cookers to the high‑tech Boiling Vessels still used in tanks today.
Education and Experience Manager, Nicola Burgess, said: “The British love a cup of tea and tank crews are no exception. We are excited to share the evolution of tea-making in tanks, and we have partnered with Dorset Tea to help us share this story.”

Visitors to the Museum will learn about the compact and portable ‘Tommy’s Cooker’, designed for boiling water or heating rations during the First World War; as well as the ‘Benghazi Burner’, an improvised tea method made from an empty tin filled with sand and fuel, all the way up to the modern Boiling Vessel used today.
Nicola continued: “In addition to hands-on talks and tours, our live tanks in action displays return in our Kuwait Arena at 1pm on weekdays, offering fascinating insights into our collection and how they work together on a battlefield. Plus, visitors can even get into the arena themselves in a tracked vehicle ride. There really is something for everyone!”
