Discover the Hidden Role of Forests in Tank Warfare This Half Term

This May Half Term, The Tank Museum is exploring the unexpected story of tanks and trees, with a week of family-friendly activities, 23 to 31 May 2026.

In partnership with Forestry England, this half term’s theme reveals how forests have shaped the way tanks operate, from constructing trenches to providing cover and concealment. Visitors can take part in hands-on activities such as the Green Machines trail and craft activities inspired by the natural world.

Alongside this, visitors can experience the power of armoured vehicles in our explosive tanks in action display, followed by a chance to meet the crew, taking place Monday to Friday at 1 pm.

Leif Mann, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Forestry England, said, “This event is a brilliant way to show families how nature and history are often intertwined. We’re really proud to be working in partnership with The Tank Museum to restore ancient woodland in Wimborne, just 25 miles away, which will help local wildlife thrive for years to come. Our team will be on-site throughout the week to chat about the important work we do managing the nation’s forests, so please do come and say hello if you’d like to learn more.”

For younger children, don’t miss the chance to meet STICK MANon Sunday, 24 May. For visitors looking for a crafty day out, join us for a pottery painting session hosted by Sophie’s Ceramics on 26 May. Choose your piece, get painting, and take your creation away at the end of the day! Booking is essential, and all materials will be provided.
